Norwalk has three new city council members and a new mayor and a lot of healing from one of the roughest campaigns that just concluded two weeks ago.
Recently elected city council members Marcel Rodarte, Leonard Shryock, and Luigi Vernola were given the Oath of Office.
It was the first time in Norwalk history that three challengers were elected to the City Council in the same election since the city incorporated back in 1956. City Clerk Teresa Devoy oversaw the swearing in ceremonies.
Highlight for me was watching little Ellie Rodarte hold the Bible as her father Marcel took the Oath of Office. What a once in a lifetime moment for the Rodarte family.
Norwalk has many challenges in the very near and distant future. They are going to hire a new City Manager within months. They have many fiscal issues, and they have to heal from many past political battles.
Insider: Very few mentions of outgoing city councilman Rick Ramirez tonight. Also, nice to hear that former Norwalk City Councilman Jesse Luera is doing better. He had a spokesperson read a statement that congratulated both Rodarte and Shryock (hummm. Did anyone notice that newly elected Council Member Vernola was not "congratulated" by Luera. Didn't get past me....)
Reception is going on in the City Hall garden right now..... Pass the rumaki and sushi rolls, and avoid the chicken wings.
