LONG BEACH -

That grunt you hear over in North Artesia tonight is probably coming from the casa of Assemblyman Tony Mendoza.  Poor Tony.  Yep, he just got "boxed out" of becoming the next California State Senate for the greater Long Beach area.

Tony "The Tiger" Mendoza has been running for the State Senate every since he was first elected to the Assembly (56th District) nearly 5 years ago. Yep.  The dream is about to come crashing down to earth.

How come? Three words.  Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal.

Yep, the mega-popular Long Beach political icon told the Press-Telegram on Thursday that she is "in" the campaign for the soon to be vacated Senate seat held by her ex-husband state Sen. Alan Lowenthal.  The same seat Mendoza has his heart set on.

Sorry, Tony.  Don't waste your time on this campaign. You can't beat a Lowenthal who runs in Long Beach for higher office, or any office for that matter. Period. Exclamation Point.

Oh, sure, Mendoza will continue to raise hundreds of thousands of more special interest campaign bucks for this campaign for the next 15 months (yikes).  He will carry as much "sponsored" legislation for seedy special interest groups so he can get his war chest stuffed.

Dude, you can't be Bonnie L-O-W-E-N-T-H-A-L. Game. Set. Match.  Democracy in action.  Doesn't it drive you crazy. Congratulations Bonnie!  Now, the real race is going to be WHO will be replacing Bonnie Lowenthal in the Assembly and Mendoza for his termed out seat.

Get ready.  Yep.  Long Beach City Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal is waiting in the wings to replace her mother-in-law Bonnie in the Assembly.  Suja is married to Superior Court Judge Daniel Lowenthal.
