***UPDATE***

The suspect is identified as 31-year-old Giovanni Ramirez, a male Hispanic from Los Angeles. He was taken into custody on May 22, 2011, at 7:10 a.m., in the 800 block of North Mariposa Avenue. He was booked for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and is being held on one million dollars bail.

Los Angeles: Early this morning, May 22, 2011, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) SWAT officers and Detectives from Northeast Area served warrants in connection with an assault investigation.

Around 7:00 a.m., LAPD SWAT officers and Northeast Detectives investigating the assault of San Francisco Giants baseball fan Bryan Stow served two search warrants on locations in the Rampart Area of Los Angeles.  One warrant was served at an apartment building, the other at a home.  One person was taken into custody, several people were detained for questioning and evidence was seized.
Northeast Area detectives got the break they needed when, late last week, information from a law enforcement source allowed detectives to accelerate their investigation and focus on the suspect taken into custody this morning.  The LAPD anticipates releasing all those detained after they have been questioned.  Since the March 31, 2011 attack on 42-year old Bryan Stow, the LAPD has received over 630 leads from law enforcement and the community.  The number of leads increased substantially after WANTED billboards went up last Wednesday.
Stow was leaving Dodger Stadium along with several of his friends, following the conclusion of the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the San Francisco Giants baseball game.  The two suspects, who were wearing Dodger attire, began taunting the victims because of their affiliation with the San Francisco Giants.  As the victim and his friends attempted to walk away from the suspects, the victim was hit from behind and fell to the ground.  The suspects then kicked the victim as he lay on the ground.  The victim’s friends attempted to intervene and they too were hit by the suspects.  Stow suffered a severe skull fracture.

The two suspects were last seen leaving Parking Lot 2, driven away from the stadium by a woman in a light or white four-door sedan.  It is believed that she was wearing a white Dodgers jersey with the name of Andre Ethier and the number 16 on the back.  Both the woman and the second suspect involved in the attack on Stow are still at large, and detectives are asking the public to continue to provide any information that could lead to their arrest.
The LAPD has had 20 detectives assigned to the case, and has expended over 6000 hours on the investigation which will continue.  A $250,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
Anyone with additional information on this crime is urged to call Northeast Detectives L. Burcher or P.J. Morris at 213-847-4261 or 213-847-4261. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
