We need to help find the killers of well known Long Beach community member tonight.
Sor Phouam, owned and operated a popular local connivance and liquor mart and he was literally assassinated at point blank range a couple of days ago.
Today, Long Beach Police issued the above video footage and photos of the crime scene and the suspects who are still at large.
SATURDAY NIGHT CRIME
If you recall, the murder of Phouam took place this past Saturday, January 22, 2011, shortly before 8:00 p.m.,
Long Beach police officers responded to his convenience store in the 1900-block of East 4th Street regarding a call of shots fired. When officers arrived, they discovered the body of 53-year-old Sor Phouam, who was a well-known and long-time store employee. Sor had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
A preliminary investigation revealed that two male suspects entered the business with the intent to commit a robbery. They approached the counter where a male customer was in the process of completing his purchase. One of the suspects removed a chrome handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the clerk. Seeing the store clerk being robbed, the customer attempted to leave the store but was stopped by the suspect with the gun, who demanded his money. After taking money from the customer, the suspect turned his attention back to Sor and fatally shot him.
The suspects are described as two male Hispanics in their late 20's or early 30's, wearing dark clothing. The weapon used was a chrome revolver. After taking money from the customer and fatally shooting Sor, the suspects fled out the front door and ran east towards Cherry Avenue.
Long Beach homicide detectives are asking the male customer who was robbed by the two suspects to come forward and contact them. Detectives believe this second robbery victim may have information, which may be useful to the murder investigation of victim Phouam.
The Long Beach Police Department is reaching out to the media, bloggers, facebookers, and community members to help in identifying these suspects.
