Fallen Los Angeles City Firefighter Glenn L. Allen will have his life celebrated on Friday with a Funeral and Memorial at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Downtown Los Angeles.  Allen, 58 lost his life last week during a residential fire up in the Hollywood Hills.


The emotional service will be staged tomorrow Friday, February 25, 2011 beginning at 9:30 a.m..  at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at  555 West Temple Street.

Several streets will be closed in the Los Angeles Civic Center area on Friday.  Those closures include the following:

Hard Street closures will start at 6:00 a.m.
Temple Street between Grand Ave and Los Angeles
Main Street between Temple and 2nd Streets
Hill Street between 1st and Ord Streets
Hill Street between 1st and Temple Streets (soft closure to provide local access)

Soft (ITC) Street closures will start at 6:00 a.m.
1st Street between Los Angeles Street and Grand Avenue
Grand Avenue between 1st Street and Hollywood Freeway on ramp
Grand Avenue between 1st Street and 3rd Street
West Ceasar E. Chavez Avenue between 1st Street and 3rd Street

 
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa  issued the following statement after the passing of Allen, a 36-year veteran of the LAFD:


"Today, I join all Angelenos in mourning the loss of Firefighter Glenn Allen, a fearlessly committed Firefighter who dedicated 36 years of his life to protecting the people of Los Angeles.  Glenn was a valiant hero whose selfless sacrifice will forever be honored.Los Angeles Fire DepartmentImage via Wikipedia

This tragedy serves as a somber, yet powerful reminder that the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department put their lives on the line each and every day to keep us safe from harm.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Firefighter Allen and his extended family of Firefighters at LAFD."

The Mayor has ordered all City flags lowered to half-staff in his honor.
