Norwalk, CA

Call this the "Mother of All Political Hit Mailings."

The location of the committee is post office box in a Cypress strip mall.
Thousands of voters in Norwalk on Saturday got a mailing from a political action group calling itself "Norwalk Call for Change."  They target two incumbent city council members with allegations of sexual misconduct, domestic abuse, "possible" investigations from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, more sexual misdeeds, arrest records, attendance records at city council meetings, the names of "possible" victims of "sexual misconduct" and on and on.

Targets of the mailing are Norwalk City Council Members Jesse Luera, and Rick Ramirez.  Both  are two of 14 candidates running for three open city council seats on the upcoming Tuesday, March 8 election. Early voting is well underway.

This is the second controversial campaign mailing to arrive in Norwalk voters mail boxes in the past week alone.  Outgoing Mayor Gordon Steffehagen sent out a "political hit mailing" last week that attacked Ramirez, and challenger even Marcel Rodarte, who just returned from an eight month deployment to Germany with the United States Air Force.

This is the actual "PO Box" that "Norwalk Call For Change" operates.
I have been around Norwalk politics my entire life.  This current campaign for the Norwalk City Council election has hit a "new" low for "dirty" campaigning.  Enough is enough. Voters in Norwalk on Saturday received 8 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch canary colored post card with the  heading:

"It's Time for a Change In Norwalk!" "We have had enough scandal and political corruption in Norwalk. Take back our city and keep it from becoming another Bell."  It also outlines several topics on Ramirez and Luera and their tenures as elected officials including lawsuits filed against them for "sexual misconduct" by at least two female city staff members.

Trust me.  Norwalk is nowhere near the corruption scandal riddled city of Bell.  Far from it.  But, Norwalk does have "ethical" issues like just about every other municipality in the sprawling South East Los Angeles County area.  This campaign tactic is tricky at best, and sometimes can backfire, causing "sympathy" for the intended targets.

A political action committee calling itself "Norwalk Call For Change" with an campaign address of 10073 Valley View Street, #110, Cypress, CA, 90630 (ID# Pending) is claiming to be responsible for the funding and distribution of this mailing.

The location of "Norwalk Call For Change" is nothing more than a "post office box" at a commercial mail box center that are located in just about every other strip mall in Southern California.  This location is right across from Cypress College, more than 13 miles south of Norwalk.

On top of that, after checking the California Secretary of State's website, the campaign committee "Norwalk Call For Change" does not exist.  State law requires that all political mass mailings must identify the name and address of the political action committee and their registered campaign information.  Big trouble looming? Hummmm?

Who controls "Norwalk Call For Change?"  What will this "committee" be sending out during the last 14 days of this highly emotional campaign?  Who put in the thousands of dollars to fund this committee?

I hope that someone in Norwalk takes the time to ask the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and the California Fair Political Practices Commission to instigate this group "Norwalk Call For Change."

I have my own opinion on who is bankrolling this attack on Norwalk City Council Members Jesse Luera, and Rick Ramirez.  Time to fess up. Come out from behind the veil of darkness.  Talk directly to the voters of Norwalk.  This community deserves an "open and honest" campaign.

Your thoughts?  Hit my comment section.  Who are you voting for in Norwalk?  Do these campaign mailings make you feel sorry for the intended target?
