The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has issued the following statement regarding accident today in Perris. Check back for more details. I will keep on top of this news item.
On Friday, April 15, 2011, about 1:49 p.m., deputies from the Perris Police Department responded to the Perris Valley Airport reference a reported skydiving accident involving two skydivers. Initial information indicated the two skydivers had collided in mid-air and their parachutes became entangled.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered both skydivers were being treated by paramedics. They were both transported to a local hospital, where one of the skydivers was pronounced dead. The other skydiver remains in critical condition. The exact cause of the accident is unknown, pending further investigation. The incident is being investigated by the Perris Police Department, Riverside County Coroner, NTSB and the FAA.

It has happened again.
Two male skydivers were involved in a tragic mid air collision today near the Perris Valley Airport in the Inland Empire.
According to a report obtained from the Riverside County Fire Department, two male victims were involved in the accident and were transported in critical condition,with head and chest injuries. The mid air skydiving collision has apparently resulted in the death of one of the victims and the other is in critical condition.
Riverside Sheriff's are currently at the location of the incident and an investigation has been launched.
Initial reports claim that the two victims suffered a "mid-air collision" while falling to earth.
Image via WikipediaBoth victims were transported via ground ambulance, where one unidentified victim succumbed. The injured skydiver is listed in critical condition at a Perris area hospital.
The name of the victim or the survivor has not be released by law enforcement or fire officials. As soon as we have a "positive identification" I will update this blog post.
The accident was reported at 1:48 p.m. Friday afternoon at Perris Valley Sky Diving, located at 2091 Goetz Road in Perris. Three fire vehicles responded to the scene that included nine rescue workers, paramedics and fire fighters.
Two weeks ago, popular professional skydivers Chris Stasky and Patrick McGowan were killed in another mid air accident at the same airport.
