Image via WikipediaLOS ANGELES – An alleged arsonist accused of setting a fire inside a classroom at a Hollywood synagogue and other structures was charged today with more than a dozen felonies.
Deputy District Attorney Sean Carney of the Arson Section said Dmitriy Sheyko, 21 (dob 03/03/90), is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Sheyko is charged in case No. BA383606 with 19 felony counts involving burglary, arson and use of a destructive device. Bail for the defendant is recommended at $3 million.
The defendant is accused of breaking into several structures and setting fires in all but one of the locations, including Temple Israel of Hollywood.
Sheyko also allegedly burglarized and set fire to several residences in the community of Beverly Ridge Terrace where he purportedly used Molotov cocktails in two of the homes as well as to destroy a flatbed truck. The alleged offenses took place on April 14 and 17, 2011.
If convicted as charged, Sheyko faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in state prison.
